We produce and sell asphalt and offer paving, grading, and surface
treatment services to private, commercial, and public customers.
We have three plants that produce bituminous concrete, commonly
known as plant mix asphalt in central Virginia. These asphalt plants
are located in Shadwell (east of Charlottesville) and Red Hill (south
of Charlottesville), both in Albemarle County and in Ruckersville
(north of Charlottesville) in Greene County.
Plant mix asphalt is a blend of crushed stone, sand and liquid
asphalt. It is manufactured by blending liquid asphalt and various
size aggregate, all heated to approximately 300 degrees Fahrenheit,
in a computer-controlled asphalt plant. Company personnel constantly
monitor the process, and the ingredients and final products are
continually tested by Company technicians, in order to ensure a
good quality mix. This mix is transported to projects via truck
and is placed with paving machines and compacted with static and
vibratory rollers.
The Company produces a number of different mixes, using a variety
of aggregate types and sizes and different types of liquid asphalt.
These mixes are used in the construction and resurfacing of highways
and parking lots and, in addition, in the construction and resurfacing
of driveways, golf cart paths and tennis courts.
